Rolling stands
Rod & bar mill All components from MTi are designed for high durability and maximum uptime. The high quality of the components, and a reliable supply of spare parts thanks to extensive standardization, ensure we meet or exceed our customers¡¯ expectations. MTi rolling stands are suitable for use in a wide range of situations. Our convertible stands, for example, can be switched over from horizontal to vertical operation at the press of a button. In the past, set up times were measured in minutes, whereas now production can be changed in a matter of seconds.

Bar sizing & Straightening machine
Rod & bar mill High precision rolling coupled with process flexibility and equipment durability describes the MTi bar sizing technology. Based on the two-roll arrangement, various solutions are available, which meet every need for size, load capacity and productivity for small, medium and large sized pipe and tube steel. Slitting and high speed cooling bed
Rod & bar mill MTi¡¯s powered slitters provide highly accurate and consistent dividing. Divided strands may be finished in the same rolling stands or individually, for better product quality and tolerance. High speed finishing maximizes rolling operation over the entire product mix. To meet the requirements of high speed delivery to the cooling bed, MTi provides the Rotary Entry System as well as the Multichannel Braking System.

Cooling beds
Rod & bar mill MTi cooling beds are designed using standard elements that can be combined in accordance with plant product mix requirements and production capacity. The design features cover a variety of applications: rounds from ¨ª 8 to 300 mm, light, medium and heavy sections up to1,000 mm and rails.

Hot and cold shear, saws
Rod & bar mill MTi offers a full line of hot and cold shears necessary in a bar or rod mill for a wide variety of requirements, such as head/tail cropping, dividing, sampling or scrapping, cutting-to-length. Sawing units are available for rails, medium-large sections, large bars, and special steel grades, where sawing is preferred over shearing.

Finishing components
Rod & bar mill MTi has an extensive portfolio of equipment to cover the complete range of final processing needs. From counting to bundling and stacking ? everything can be arranged for a smooth final production process.

Bar thermal processing
Rod & bar mill MTi's quenching systems provide efficient cooling of ribbed products to meet virtually any worldwide specification for quenched and tempered rebar. Thermo mechanical Rolling is made possible by a proper arrangement of rolling and cooling equipment, adequate load capacity in the rolling stands and intelligent rolling and cooling practices. The result is a refined microstructure in the product that has superior as-rolled mechanical and metallurgical properties, eliminating or significantly reducing the subsequent downstream processes.

Sizes and grades
Rod &\ bar millU.S. sizes

Imperial bar designations represent the bar diameter in fractions of ¨û inch, such that #8 = 8?8 inch = 1 inch diameter. Area = (bar size/9)2 such that area of #8 = (8/9)2 = 0.79 in2. This applies to #8 bars and smaller. Larger bars have a slightly larger diameter than the one computed using the ¨û inch convention.

Metric bar designations represent the nominal bar diameter in millimeters. Bars in Europe will be specified to comply with the standard EN 10080 (awaiting introduction as of early 2007), although various national standards still remain in force (e.g. BS 4449 in the United Kingdom).

Rod & bar millGrades

Rebar is available in different grades and specifications that vary in yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, chemical composition, and percentage of elongation.
The grade designation is equal to the minimum yield strength of the bar in ksi (1000 psi) for example grade 60 rebar has a minimum yield strength of 60 ksi. Rebar is typically manufactured in grades 40, 60, and 75.
Common ASTM specification are:[3]

- ASTM A82: Specification for Plain Steel Wire for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A184/A184M: Specification for Fabricated Deformed Steel Bar Mats for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A185: Specification for Welded Plain Steel Wire Fabric for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A496: Specification for Deformed Steel Wire for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A497: Specification for Welded Deformed Steel Wire Fabric for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A615/A615M: Deformed and plain carbon-steel bars for concrete reinforcement
- ASTM A616/A616M: Specification for Rail-Steel Deformed and Plain Bars for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A617/A617M: Specification for Axle-Steel Deformed and Plain Bars for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A706/A706M: Low-alloy steel deformed and plain bars for concrete reinforcement
- ASTM A767/A767M: Specification for Zinc-Coated(Galvanized) Steel Bars for Concrete Reinforcement
- ASTM A775/A775M: Specification for Epoxy-Coated Reinforcing Steel Bars
- ASTM A934/A934M: Specification for Epoxy-Coated Prefabricated Steel Reinforcing Bars
- ASTM A955: Deformed and plain stainless-steel bars for concrete reinforcement
- ASTM A996: Rail-steel and axle-steel deformed bars for concrete reinforcement

ASTM marking designations are:
- 'S' billet A615
- 'I' rail A616
- 'IR' Rail Meeting Supplementary Requirements S1 A616
- 'A' Axle A617
- 'W' Low-alloy ? A706

Historically in Europe, rebar is composed of mild steel material with a yield strength of approximately 250 N/mm©÷. Modern rebar is composed of high-yield steel, with a yield strength more typically 500 N/mm©÷. Rebar can be supplied with various grades of ductility, with the more ductile steel capable of absorbing considerably greater energy when deformed - this can be of use in design to resist the forces from earthquakes for example.
